We might've had a luxuriously long development cycle (praise be to Nintendo!) but it was super tough getting everything done. I'm so happy it looked that way, but it was also the hardest project I've ever had to work on. They were such a great company to work with. Hands down my favourite joke in the game and I was always amazed LEGO were okay with it. I think it was important he wasn't player 2 because a little Frank Honey goes a long way. The funniest thing is, I'm pretty sure the loading bars were faked. They actually just did a podcast about the making of it over on the LEGO Games website. Probably just a weird knock-on from wanting to make a GTA-ey game with no actual guns in it - all the sensible decisions just funneled us down the same route. It definitely wasn't one of the design touchstones I heard discussed. To my knowledge it's a complete coincidence that it bears any resemblance to Sleeping Dogs. I think I wrote the in-game stuff as well on the Batman Movie DLC, but that WAS made at TT Fusion so it made sense. Really I just did the cutscenes on that because the scale of the project (and the fact that it was being made over at TT Games, not at TT Fusion where I worked) made that the only viable option.
